Futuristic 1964 Chrysler Turbine Car

1964 Chrysler Turbine Car

This weeks Photo Friday is "Futuristic". This is a 1964 Chrysler Turbine car. In the 1960's, a few hundred lucky people were given the privilege of beta testing this vehicle. From what I can tell, the turbine turned a driveshaft, so it wasn't pushed along by a jet engine. Still I would drive one, I guess these cars were ahead of their time.

This picture was taken at the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit when I visited there in September of 2006.

Country Creek In Livermore

Creek

This week's Photo Friday is "The Country". I took this picture in Livermore, California back in 2003. It's beautiful country out there with grass lands that seem to just go on forever.

The Blues

Blue Skies Are Back

After a spring winter storm, blue skies are back. This is the view from my front window. This week's Photo Friday, "The Blues".

|

Accidental Western Scene

Accidental Western Scene

This weeks Photo Friday is "Accidental". I took this picture at a peir in Lake Erie, Ohio. Although it's a splashing of water against a metal pier, it looks like a western scene with a cowboy on a horse at sunset.

Thin

Meadow Part - 6

This week's Photo Friday is "Thin". This was taken near the Spruce Hole Yurt near Chama New Mexico. Check out the complete photo set up on Flickr.

Common

Wolf Spider

This week's Photo Friday is "Common". As it turns out, spiders have been very common in my house since the day I bought it. Although I don't believe in chemical pest control, I bug bombed the crap out of the house and yet still was vacuuming them up 9 months after moving in.

Remarkable

Lots of balloons

This week's Photo Friday is "Remarkable." One of the more remarkable things to see is the mass ascension at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, where hundreds and hundreds of balloon rise at once. This picture I took in October of 2004.

Summer

Ant on bloom

It's been a while since I made a entry for Photo Friday and this weeks it is "Summer". I took this picture up in the Sandias and is the best picture to represent Summer that I have so far.

Panorama

Raiatea

For this week's Photo Friday "Panorama", I've chosen a panorama from my trip to Tahiti in 2001. This panorama is of Raiatea taken from the cruise ship. There are several other panaoramas that I made fro that trip all using my first digital camera, a Canon PowerShot S100. Check out my complete photo album from Tahiti.

Best of 2005

Cactus Overlooking Phoenix

This week's Photo Friday is "Best of 2005". This photo of a cactus on South Mountian is one of my best. I have a few others I could have picked but think this is pretty representative.

Depth Of Field

wind chimes

This week's Photo Friday is "Depth Of Field". This photo, entitled "wind chimes" was taken on Tybee Island, Georgia during a recent trip there. There were many colorfully wind chimes in a tourist trap along the main drag, while reviewing the pictures I thought this fit the subject quite well.

Massive

Valles caldera

This week's Photo Friday is "Massive". This is the inside of the Valles caldera, a massive volcano in Jemez Mountians. What you may not be able to see in this picture is the large number of deer heards.

The Jemez mountains are a volcanic field in north central New Mexico that overlies the west edge of the Rio Grande rift. Volcanism began 13 million years ago. The most recent activity was 130,000 years ago. Magma ranging from basalt to rhyolite in composition has been erupted. The volcanic field is best known for the Valles caldera which formed 1.12 million years ago and produced the Bandelier Tuff. The Valles caldera is the most studied caldera in the United States (and probably the world). The geothermal and hot springs systems are caused by flow of groundwater through the caldera. The water flows near the top of a subsurface body of igneous rock that still may be partially molten (it is certainly still hot). Some of the water rises to the surface to supply fumaroles and hot springs. Geothermal activity continues. Based on the long history of the Jemez volcanic field and past cycles in activity it probably should be considered a dormant volcano that will probably erupt again.

Complexity

Building in building

This week's Photo Friday is "Complexity". When leaving Cochiti Lake, we missed the turn off and ended up going thorough the pueblo. From the looks of it, this is the highest level of Complexity you get in this town. By the way, the old guy on the couch isn't flipping me off.

Somber

Albuquerque from Sandia Peak

It's been a while since I posted a Photo Friday entry, but that dry spell should come to a end now. This weeks theme is "Somber". This is a somewhat somber view from atop of the Sandias overlooking Albuquerque at sunset. Yes, I had to dip into the archives for this but I will try for more current content in the future.

Symbol

Zia Sign

This weeks Photo Friday is "Symbol". This is the New Mexico state symbol, taken at the the Sandia Peak Tram.

|

Green

cactus

This weeks Photo Friday is "Green". Here's a nice green, prickly cactus for ya!

|

Space

Looking Westward

This weeks Photo Friday is "Space". One thing I can say for sure, we have plenty of wide open spaces in New Mexico.

|

Action

Chili Pepers Race

This weeks Photo Friday is "Action". It should have been a easy thing to get out and get some action shots, but it was a rough week. Therefore I present another picture from the Isotopes game I went to, the racing chills (and taco). I think the green won.

|

Fancy

Isotopes park

This weeks Photo Friday is "Fancy". Isotopes Park is home of the Albuquerque Isotopes minor league baseball team. You may recall them from the Simpsons episode. The park itself was remodeled when the Dukes left us like a thief in the night. The park is very fancy now.

Soft

Soft

This weeks Photo Friday is "Soft".

Rest

Pigeon resting in her nest

This weeks Photo Friday is "Rest". This pigeon is at rest in it's nest, on my balcony. Normally I would chase it away but it has an egg and it was here first, so I've left it alone.

|

Plastic

iTunes Caps

This weeks Photo Friday, "Plastic", instantly reminded me of all the plastic bottles I've been going through to get free songs for the iTunes Music Store. This is but a mer sampling of all the caps I collected, not to mention the ones that were collected for me from around the county by family and friends. It helps that my rather large office building has recycling bins located around the place, so I would go through them after work and get what I could. I hauled in about 10 a week this way.

I estimate that I've collected around 100 free songs or more from this contest once I got serious about it. Also makes me wonder how successful it was if all these people were just throwing them away. They are going to stop making the caps after 4/11/05 and stop entry of the codes after 4/30/05.

|

Hot

Burner

This weeks subject is "Hot". This is kind of a weak entry, but it fits the subject matter. It's a picture of the burner on my gas stove. It did give me the opportunity to play with some camera settings, so I at least learned something.

|

Tiny

Circuit Board

This week's Photo Friday is "Tiny". These surface mount components are from a 266Mhz iMac G3 motherboard. I had to remove one of the resistors from this when I lost one when trying to over-clock my iBook. Talk about tiny!
